How it works

How the tap tempo calculator measures BPM

BeatTiming timestamps each tap at input, filters isolated timing outliers, and fits a stable tempo across your recent taps. A pause starts a fresh measurement automatically.

BPM ESTIMATE60,000 ÷ estimated beat interval in ms

For the cleanest result, tap at least four steady beats. Use ×2 or ÷2 if you naturally tapped the half-time or double-time pulse.

Quick answers

Tap tempo FAQ

How many times should I tap?

Four taps is enough for a useful estimate. Eight or more steady taps usually produces a more stable reading.

Can I use the keyboard?

Yes. Press any non-modifier key. Mouse clicks and screen taps work too.

Why is the BPM half or double?

You may be following a different rhythmic subdivision. The ÷2 and ×2 controls correct it instantly.

Does BeatTiming listen to audio?

No. Everything is calculated from your taps in your browser. No microphone, upload, account or tracking is required to calculate BPM.
